Offcumduns are a group of men and women who do a particular type of Morris dancing which developed in the North West of England - hence the clogs.

Some of the dances are interpretations of those which were developed toward the end of the the 1800s for the processions made on high days and holidays in Lancashire and Cheshire and they bear the names of northern towns like Stockport, Horbury and Dukinfield.

Other dances we have made up, but keeping the same style and stepping. we have named these after local towns and villages in our part of the country - like Eastry, Sandgate and Shepherdswell

What is an ‘Offcumdun’?

‘Offcumdun’ is a northern dialect term for a person who is out of his or her usual place - in other words , one who’s come from off!

We reckon that dancing the North West style right down here in the South East is probably about as far off as you can get!

We hope that wherever you see us dance you will enjoy watching us - and maybe consider joining us. (visit contact page)

New members are warmly invited to join us in the autumn each year - No previous experience is required.
